Biography

Dr. Keough is a broadly-trained cultural geographer with interests in urban, social, and economic geography. She holds a Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Tennessee and an M.S. in Geography from Virginia Tech. Her current research focuses on water vending in the informal economy in West Africa (Niger and Senegal), and she has also published articles on urban planning, media, migration, and music, with a regional focus on Canada. Her work has appeared in The Journal of Cultural Geography, The American Review of Canadian Studies, Urban Geography, Aether: The Journal of Media Geography, and Focus on Geography, as well as chapters in edited volumes on music and media. Dr. Keough is the Chief Editor of the scholarly, peer-reviewed journal Material Culture (since 2008), and serves on the Executive Board of the International Society for Landscape, Place, and Material Culture. In her spare time, she is a distance runner, a mother, an avid reader, and is a semi-professional trumpet player who performs in many Saginaw-area ensembles.
