Biography

Marc H. Peretz is the Dean of the College of Arts and Behavioral Sciences and Professor of Music. Prior to becoming Dean, he served as the Associate Provost for International and Advanced Studies and Associate Provost. Dr. Peretz also served as Chair of the Department of Music and taught music education classes. Before coming to SVSU, Dr. Peretz was an Associate Professor of Academic Studies in Music at Ball State University (IN). He also had appointments as an Associate Professor of Music and Director of the Cadek Conservatory of Music at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and as an Assistant Professor of Music Education and DIrector of Speical Programs at Westminster Choir College (NJ). In addition to his teaching career, Dr. Peretz performed with a number of professional music ensembles, including The Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra, Chattanooga Pops, Cadek Brass Trio, The Chattanooga Symphony Brass Quintet, Richmond Symphony (IN), Ball State University faculty brass ensemble, the Riverbend Festival Symphony Orchestra, Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra, and the Princeton Brass Quintet.

Teaching Interests

Dr. Peretz's princpal areas of teaching have been in the philosophical and psychological foundations of music education. He has also taught a wide variety of other music education courses, including general music methods and instrumental methods. 

Research

Dr. Peretz's research has been in curriculum theory applied to music education. He has also been involved in research in aesthetic education.

Community Engagement

Dr. Peretz has served as a member of the Executive Board of the Michigan Music Educators Association and as its Research Chair. He has been an adjudicator for numerous music festivals, and was a reviewer for the Tennessee Governor's School of the Arts and for the Educational Testing Service. 

Honors and Awards

Dr. Peretz was made an Honorary Member of the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association.

Dr. Peretz has been a member of the National Association for Music Education, and is a member of the Council of Colleges of Arts and Sciences.
