Biography
Dr. Joseph Jaksa joined the SVSU Criminal Justice faculty in 2007 after working in the private security and investigation industry for over 20 years. Jaksa has a Master's Degree in Leadership and Public Administration from Saginaw Valley State University (Master’s thesis in security officer training and legislation), a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University and a Ph.D. from Oakland University in Educational Leadership (Doctoral dissertation in Higher Education and Criminal Justice curriculum). He is an active member of the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) since 1989 and held leadership positions at the local, regional and international levels. Jaksa is also a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) from ASIS International, since 1995. In addition, he has served as an instructor of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University, Saginaw Valley State University, and Mott Community College.
In addition to his role as the senior member of the SVSU Criminal Justice department, he is also the Program Coordinator for the Master of Arts – Public Administration (MPA) program. This program offers graduate level classes and a degree for individuals working in or interested in careers in the public, non-profit, not-for-profit, governmental, and criminal justice sectors.

Teaching Interests
Teaching interests include:
Undergraduate Courses: Private Security, White Collar Crime, Cybercrime, Homeland Security, Criminal Justice Management, and Global Organized Crime.
Graduate Courses: Conflict Management in the Organization, Ethics in the Professions, Organizational Leadership, and Experiential Learning in Public Administration.
Research
Research Interests: Comparison of practical and theoretical criminal justice curriculum pertaining to undergraduate education, contrasting practices and methodologies between American and European contract security agencies, effects of Homeland Security as a deterrent of crime and terrorism, and the role of teaching acceptable and safe cyber practices.
