Biography

David C. Berry, PhD, AT, ATC, ATRIC  is a licensed athletic trainer with over 20 years of experience in clinical-based practice and in higher education. Dr. Berry has published, lectured and developed workshops at regional, state, and national levels on a variety of topics including, aquatic therapy, emergency trauma management, clinical education and game-based learning in higher education. He has co-authored three textbooks, Emergency Reponses Management for Athletic Trainers, Athletic and Orthopedic Injury Assessment: Case Study Approach, and Athletic and Orthopedic Injury Assessment: Case Responses and Interpretations. He currently serves as the Teaching and Learning Column Editor of the Athletic Training Education Journal. He earned his bachelor's degree in Health Education at the University of Massachusetts, his master's degrees in Teaching and Physical Education/Athletic Training from Sacred Heart University and Western Michigan University and his doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Ohio University. Dr. Berry is an associate professor at SVSU, teaching courses  to injury assessment, therapeutic modalities, emergency trauma management and CPR, functional anatomy, and athletic training clinical education courses. ""The SVSU athletic training program is designed to prepare a student for many career opportunities in the field of athletic training as well as for post-professional graduate studies. Students are continuously challenged to foster critical-thinking and decisions making skills using the current available science. Students are also challenged to demonstrate the virtue of respectfulness, accountability, and responsibility with the ultimate hope of demonstrating a high commitment to educational excellence as well as professional and civic engagement.�
